‘Sleepy Hollow: Providence #2’ – Advance Comic Book Review

I have a feeling that Abbie, Ichabod, and Jennie could never take a vacation, as everywhere they go either they have an artifact to find or someone or something is after them. In this case, it’s a biker gang from hell—almost literally.

Accosted by what appears to be a vicious gang of demons who can masquerade as humans, Emily, the Amish caretaker of “The Spike,” manages to magically paralyze the gang long enough for the two witnesses and Jennie to escape. The group heads back to Sleepy Hollow from Philadelphia to do more research on their new enemy, only to discover these demons are actually Welsh Fairies who claim that “The Spike” was stolen from them long ago. Led by their King Gwyn Ap Nudd, these fairies are on a “Wild Hunt” which may have consequences Abbie and Ichabod can only guess at. Meanwhile, the biker gang has searched Crane’s cabin only to confirm that Abbie is a cop, but Nudd feels there is much more to them than meets the eye. As they prepare for a confrontation with Nudd and his gang, Abbie and Ichabod unwittingly put civilians in harm’s way. Who survives this battle is anybody’s guess.

Once again, I think the paneling does a good job at conveying a lot of information without being overwhelming. The coloring does a good job of eliciting a dark and ominous tone; however, Mr. Carrasco still hasn’t quite nailed down Ichabod’s speech, and the repartee between him and Abbie feels forced. And, I was a little confused by Nudd striking his lover while he stared at nothing then said she was interrupting him. I presume that will be explained in a later issue. Overall, the story moved really well, and there was some nice foreshadowing. I look forward to seeing how this story ends.

The issue was written by Eric Carrasco, with art by Victor Santos and colors by Jason Wordie.
